Topic of Discussion:
Steps to take careers to the next level, communicating with your manager, managing your manager, conflict management, management training/experience
We had 16 WISE Houston women attend the Peer Mentoring Group. The ladies’ work experience ranged from 10 years to 35 years. We discussed topics that affect most everyone in the room and received different perspectives based on the role that each woman held.
We had discussions regarding some difficult topics in the workplace such as feeling there is no room for growth within companies and how to gain experience without leaving the company. Everyone was involved in the conversations and I think it opened doors for members to interact with each other more outside of our planned events.
Leah’s Takeaway Advice: “Always keep the lines of communication open, whether it is with your supervisor, your peers or the team that works for you. Understanding what the expectation is, is a key component with being successful in anything you do.”
