On Tuesday, August 21st, Houston’s WISE women attended the NCAA Women’s Basketball bid at the Downtown Aquarium to make #HistoryLikeNeverBeFOUR. Houston has never hosted the Women’s Final Four, and it was our goal to send the NCAA and Women’s Basketball Committee off in a memorable way in order to host this event at the Toyota Center in 2021. With a lot of hard work and dedication by the Harris County & Houston Sports Authority’s Community Partners, Universities and Elected Officials the committee members were undoubtedly blown away by the Houston Spirit.
From touring this awesome city to witnessing a former Comet Player and Olympian, Sheryl Swoopes, lead a “dribble parade” of 2,000 HISD and YMCA kids there will be no shortage of experiences for the committee to consider. The sendoff party at our Downtown Aquarium was the last stop on the agenda with the goal to leave a strong and lasting impression, and who better than to leave this lasting impression than our very own Janis Burke and our city’s “greatest salesman”, Mayor Sylvester Turner. Their heartfelt speeches on the opportunities Houston offers coupled with our strong presence of female leadership ensures that the committee will take note of our community’s efforts.
Our WISE women’s presence helps display a strong and united female front which will no doubt make this tough choice for the NCAA and Women’s Basketball Committee. We are optimistic that the committee will make the right choice and make #HistoryLikeNeverBeFOUR right here in Houston!
