EVENT RECAP
WISE Power Play 2021

Tuesday, April 20, 2021 | 5:00pm – 9:00 pm

Karbach Brewery 2032 Karbach St, Houston, TX 77092 In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Houston WISE Chapter hosted their 4th annual Power Play a WISE National Signature Event on April 20th, 2021. This was our first face to face event Post-Covid-19 Quarantine. About 25 women attended the event which took place in the Beirgarten of Karbach Brewery and focused on Women in Theatre and Arts. Chandra Young Pierce and Jordan McPhail co-managed this year’s SMR. This interactive event provides direct access to industry veterans and brought attendees up close and personal with veterans in the Theatre and Arts community to discuss their pressing career questions. The event gives members insight on this industry, highlights the impact women have and have had on Theatre and Arts and also provides leadership and career insights for younger industry professionals.

Three (3) female industry veterans were featured as the 2021 panelists. These women were invited by our own Theatre & Arts guru Jordan McPhail of TUTS who also stepped up as Moderator. Our featured panelists included: Emily Wells, Performer (Houston Grand Opera), Alecia Lawyer, Director (River Oaks Chamber Orchestra), Megan Larche Dominick, Producer (Theater Under The Stars).

During this year’s event, at sign in colored wristbands were available to indicate each person’s level of comfortability with social interaction post COVID-19.

We raffled 2 $100 gift cards to TUTS. The winners were Jesi Garza Cox and Lauren Brezger.
Silver Eagle Distributers donated 2 drink tickets per attendee that covered the drink portion of the tab a Karbach.
Kimberly Straughan created the “thank you” gifts that we gave each panelists. The gifts were comprised of all of our previous branded WISE Houston giveaway’s (Beer Mug, Wine Class, Wine Stopper, WISE Houston T-shirt and a $50 Ninfa’s gift cards).

The event signage and Itinerary cards design was outsourced and The Document Group kindly donated their printing services for both. In 2021, each WISE Houston Signature event will include a charitable component benefitting Dress for Success Houston. The mission of Dress for Success Houston is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and life. Several guests donated professional attire, shoes and padfolios to help empower disadvantaged
women in our community. DFS were collected by Jesi Garza Cox to be given to the Charity’s representative as a donation from WISE Houston.

Current Chapter President, Janis Burke opened and closed the event with welcoming words and a warm “thank you” to all in attendance. Guests seemed to enjoy being face to face in an outdoor environment that was conducive for all. All in all, it was a wonderful event!
